The steadfast love of the Lord
Ps 103:11 “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him.”
Dear CBC Family,
We saw last weekend that much of what is stated about God’s love today is blatantly false and contrary to scripture. We hear that “God loves everyone” and that “He hates the sin but loves the sinner.” We saw that the Bible actually teaches the opposite. The Bible is God’ self-revelation and thus it is the sole source for understanding who He is and what He is like.
Seeing God as holy, just, and with a wrath that isn’t just against sin, but the sinner too, is essential to understanding the truth of the gospel. Once God is thought about rightly in these areas, we are now free to pursue an understanding of what the love of God is for His people in Christ. This biblical perspective keeps pride in check and allows for the believer to rejoice in the gospel of grace.
This weekend, we will have a very special time in God’s word as we look at amazing topic of God’s love for us as His children in Christ. In view of God’s infinite beauty, power, and wisdom, what would His love to a creature involve? Or to put it another way: What could God give us to enjoy that would show him most loving? There is only one possible answer, isn’t there? Himself! To be loving, God must give us what will be best for us and delight us the most. He must give us Himself. And, what do we do when we are given, or shown, something excellent, something we enjoy? We praise it. Praise is the natural response to being loved by God. We praise what we prize because the joy is incomplete until it is expressed in praise. Oh, there is much to learn here.
This is a great study for every believer and anyone else who needs to hear that God has made a way for the longing of their heart to be fulfilled by being adopted into His family and having His love set upon them for His sake and not their own! Bring an unsaved friend to hear how great is God’s love towards those that fear Him! Ps 103:11.
Blessings to you,
Pastor Scott
