Shine
Dear CBC Family,
Proverbs 4:18: But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.
I believe every human being has a secret desire to impact this world; to make a positive difference in the lives of those around us. But how do you actually do that in a world that seems intent on self-destruction?
The rising tide of conflict is something that goes on around us every day and isn’t likely to change any time soon. Conflict is the fruit of the unredeemed! On a global scale amongst the nations. At a national level in our conspiracy theory driven political systems. At a social level with racism and the environment. In families with relationships being torn apart.
Sure, the world’s never been perfect, and man has never been good, but there was a time when he was ashamed of being evil. To me it feels like a darkness is enveloping our society and indeed our very lives. It’s not pretty. And frankly, we should not just accept it as “its just the way it is.”
What difference can you or I possibly make, in the face of this big mess? Well, the answer according to scripture is, rather a lot.
Proverbs 4:18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.
‘Live right.’ ‘Do good.’ It sounds, just a tad simplistic doesn’t it? But when you and I choose, day after day after day, to be kind in the face of nastiness, to be decent and honest in a world where so many are anything but, when we choose simply to follow Jesus, difficult though that may be some days, an incredible thing happens.
Your light begins to shine. And just like the rising sun, it gets brighter and brighter until this dark world is filled with the full light of day. Do you see what God is saying? The light of your humble goodness in Christ has the power to quell the rising darkness; the power to change the world. We alone have the light that will enable the world to see what they are doing is wrong. Debating won’t ever accomplish what the light of God can! May I exhort you today to let your light shine before men so that they may see your good deeds and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
This weekend we are back in Romans 11. Join us for an amazing time in the light of the word of God and let that charge your batteries so you can shine all week.
Blessings to you all,
Pastor Scott
