The God who Ordained Government
Rom 13:1 "For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God."
Dear CBC Family,
Romans 13 tells us to submit to those in authority over us. This seems to be an “absolute” statement but are there any exceptions? If/when one refuses to submit to the government a certain criterion must be met.
If a person says “no”, what spirit should they have? All vindictiveness should be gone. Concern for their personal safety should be gone. We are to love people on both sides of any argument. We are to show mercy on both sides. We want our enemies' salvation.
Most people change through being personally loved, not through protests. We are not to be obnoxious and rock-throwing towards those we disagree with since we are people of the cross. We are called to take the log out of our own eyes before we try to remove a spec from someone else’s. And when that log is removed out of our eye, there are tears over the lost state of men.
This weekend we will continue in chapter 13 of Romans. This text, as I mentioned to you last weekend, is simply massive in its implications on our everyday lives. I called the message “Let Every Person Be Subject Part 2.” Please come ready to hear and obey what the Lord may choose to reveal to us.
Don’t forget we have a family BBQ this Sunday following service. The event will take place in the Sanctuary. If you would like to help set up, tear down, or work in the kitchen, please contact David Zook or Cory Frank (here). Please feel free to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
Blessings to you all,
Pastor Scott
