Suppose
James 4:5 “Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says…..”
Dear CBC Family,
One thing that I have often heard over the years from people is the word “Suppose”. That word is often followed by some negative phrase about a worst-case possibility that has stolen all the joy and hope out of a believer’s life. We spend far too much time worrying about all the “supposes” of tomorrow without ever living and enjoying the present. One text I think of at times like that is Hebrews 13:5-6 “be content with what you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." So, we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?" Forget about tomorrow’s supposes and live in the freedom of today. The Bible calls us to live one day at a time and not to worry about tomorrow. “This is the day that the Lord has made and WE WILL rejoice and be glad in it.” (and Him)
“There’s a stream of trouble across my path;
It is black and deep and wide.
Bitter the hour the future has
When I cross its swelling tide.
But I smile and sing and say:
’I will hope and trust always;
I’ll bear the sorrow that comes tomorrow,
But I’ll borrow none today.’
“Tomorrow’s bridge is a dangerous thing;
I dare not cross it now.
I can see its timbers sway and swing,
And its arches reel and bow.
O heart, you must hope always;
You must sing and trust and say:
’I’ll bear the sorrow that comes tomorrow,
But I’ll borrow none today.”’
The eagle that soars in the sky above does not worry itself as to how it is to cross a river.
May the Lord bless you as you seek Him this weekend in the gathering of the Saints.
Blessings,
Pastor Scott
